BEHIND THE LENS

MORE THAN JUST A PHOTOGRAPH.

I'm Josh Nowlan, a Perth-based photographer and the person behind Media By Josh, specialising in motorsport, sports and automotive photography.

My photography journey began in August 2023, driven by a lifelong passion for motorsport, rugby league and everything automotive. What started as a love for capturing the action has quickly grown into something much bigger — an opportunity to document incredible events, unforgettable moments and the people who make them special.

Since picking up the camera, I've had the privilege of photographing some incredible events, including the Repco Supercars Championship, World Time Attack Challenge, Adelaide Motorsport Festival, Tarmac West events and the Adam LZ World Tour, alongside Western Australia's local motorsport championships, NRL WA rugby league competitions and local automotive businesses.

Motorsport has always been a huge passion of mine. There's something about the speed, noise, precision and unpredictability of racing that makes every moment worth capturing. From the intensity of wheel-to-wheel battles to the emotion in the pits, I love telling the story of motorsport through my lens.

Rugby league is just as close to my heart. Having played the game throughout my life, I understand the passion, physicality and emotion that comes with it. That connection allows me to anticipate the action and capture the moments that matter — the big hits, match-winning tries, celebrations and everything in between.

Working with professional Canon camera equipment, I strive to produce high-quality imagery that captures more than just the action. I want people to feel the atmosphere, emotion and energy of the moment when they look at my photographs.

For me, photography isn't simply about taking pictures. It's about preserving memories, telling stories and capturing those split-second moments that can never be recreated.

Whether I'm trackside at a major motorsport event, on the sidelines of a rugby league match or working with a local automotive business, I bring the same passion, dedication and attention to detail to every shoot.

Because in photography, just like in sport and motorsport, every second counts.
